Blueberry Hill Exterior

Colorful trolley cars once animated the streets of St. Louis, linking neighborhoods, stimulating economic growth and delivering people to their destinations. The Loop derived its name from the Delmar Streetcar system that serviced University City and western St. Louis in the early 1900s.

Today the trolley car is more than just an object of nostalgia or a paragraph for the history books. It's enjoying a resurgence in popularity as a viable catalyst for economic development and a plausible transit solution to provide additional mobility options for all citizens.

Streetcars are making dramatic comebacks in cities across the country. San Francisco, Portland, Kenosha, Memphis, Charlotte, Dallas and more have installed streetcar service, much to the delight of tourists and residents. Will St. Louis be next on the list?

In St. Louis, a proposed streetcar line connecting Forest Park and The Loop to two MetroLink stations completed final design with construction beginning in 2014. The Federal Transit Administration has issued a Finding of No Significant Impact which allows the project to move forward. The Loop Trolley Company is raising private funds to match $25 million in federal funds that will help build the project.
